Project “Let’s overcome disabilities together against disasters”
Let’s overcome disabilities together against disasters is a two year project (2016-2018) , funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus Plus program. The partner countries are Bulgaria , Turkey, Czech and Poland. The partnership consists of six organizations – Eskisehir Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency (Turkey), Anadolu University (Turkey), University of Social Sciences (Poland), Turkish Red Crescent Association Eskişehir Branch (Turkey) , Handy Club Ostrava (disabilities association in Czech Republic) and Bulgarian Development Agency (Bulgaria) .This is an education and awareness project which is subject the fact that people with disabilities are ready for disaster and emergency risks, developing an accessible genuine disaster education module for people with disabilities, strengthening mobility of disabled people in case disaster and strengthening capability of server personel.
Main purpose of the project is developing an accessible disaster awareness education module for people with disabilities, providing that people with disabilities are integrated in disaster and emergency management system, contributing for realizing their own power in case of disaster and raising public awareness in order to be taken protective measures for people with disabilities against disaster risks.
The Project is important owing to filling a gap regarding disability on disaster and emergency workings , providing positive discrimination for people with disabilities in the process of accessing to opportunities and guiding for society and organisations on local, national and international levels.
Project outputs are Distance Education Module , Practice Simulation Module and Guideline:
1- Distance Education Module: Distance Education Module, e-learning/training, involves issues regarding disaster awareness education, preservative and preventive activities, the correct behavior shapes in disasters & emergencies for disabled people. The Module will be conducted to disabled people via e-platform. This module is accessible for disabled people at any time.
2- Practice Simulation Module: It regards learning by practicing and living.Disaster & emergency scenarios will be prepared and disabled people will simulate and practice the scenario. That disabled people learn correct behavior shapes in disasters & emergencies by experiencing will be provided in this way.
3- Guideline: It is ragarding what the project means with activities. The guideline will include project issues and targets, project preparing process, exemplary implementations and achievement stories.
This is an Erasmus+ Key Action Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices coordinated by Eskisehir Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency, Turkey. The project started in the autumn 2016 and will carry on till the autumn 2018.
